Jones Island Water Reclamation Facility

Located on the shores of Lake Michigan in the City of Milwaukee, Jones Island is where MMSD makes Milorganite® - a fertilizer trusted by experts since 1926. The facility is on the National Register of Historic Places and designated a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Civil Engineers.

South Shore Water Reclamation Facility

Located in the City of Oak Creek, South Shore started operating in 1968. MMSD creates energy at this facility, using anaerobic digesters to turn organic material into methane gas. The gas is collected and burned to produce electricity.

MMSD Headquarters

 

Headquarters / Central Lab

More than 200 employees work at the MMSD headquarters and Central Lab buildings. MMSD's governing body, the Commission, holds meetings at the headquarters building. In operation seven days a week, the Central Lab is the largest wastewater treatment lab in the State of Wisconsin. Water quality experts monitor wastewater treatment plant operations as well as area rivers and Lake Michigan.

Collectivo Coffee

 

Flushing Station / Colectivo Coffee

1701 N. Lincoln Memorial Drive, Milwaukee, WI 53202

The home of a popular lakefront coffee shop, Colectivo. Decades ago MMSD's Flushing Station offered the only form of wastewater treatment in the area. Built in 1888, the facility was used to pump millions of gallons of fresh Lake Michigan water into the Milwaukee River to push pollution out of the river and into the lake.
