Our actions inside and outside our homes can protect our drinking water, Lake Michigan, and help reduce the risk of sewer water backing up into your basement or overflowing into our waterways. We’re asking everyone in the community to do some simple things to help keep our water clean and flowing.

Spread across multiple branches, and highlighted by a 30,000 square foot green roof atop the Central Library, Milwaukee Public Library (MPL) has been doing its part to manage water where it falls since 2009.

The MMSD Commission approved the award of $3M to 18 successful applicants to MMSD's Green Infrastructure Partnership Program (GIPP) for 2022.

MMSD's Executive Director, Kevin Shafer, shares our river renaissance started in 1993 with the operation of the deep tunnel system, which has captured 141 billion gallons of water that would have flowed into Lake Michigan.
