Join a team dedicated to safeguarding our rivers and Lake Michigan. The Water Quality Protection (WQP) division at MMSD works across multiple teams to monitor, test, and protect the quality of our waterways.

The Laboratory Technician conducts chemical, physical, and bacteriological analyses on diverse samples.

Water Tech Career
Project Surveyors and Construction Inspectors play a critical role in ensuring the successful construction and operation of our infrastructure. Project Surveyors gather data and create accurate maps for sewer system installations, while Construction Inspectors oversee construction sites, ensuring materials meet quality standards, safety protocols are followed, and regulations are met.
The Survey Technician position assists the Project Surveyor in providing, verifying, monitoring, recording, and compiling engineering field data to plans and assists in boundary survey activities.
The Construction Inspector position is responsible for on-site oversight and monitoring of construction contracts to ensure compliance with contract documents and required quality levels.
Wastewater Operations professionals are crucial for maintaining systems that treat and clean wastewater, ensuring it is properly cleaned before being returned to Lake Michigan, safeguarding public health. These roles manage the daily operations of treatment plants, including monitoring equipment, performing inspections, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
The Wastewater Operator position operates and maintains the wastewater treatment plant in compliance with the site permit, including lab analysis of process samples and minor and preventive maintenance of equipment.
The Plant Laborer Maintenance position inspects and performs various manual laboring duties, including operating laboring equipment related to sewer and concrete repairs, sewer cleaning, or the cleaning and maintenance of buildings, grounds, watercourses, deep tunnels, or equipment.
The Instrument Technician position installs, maintains, calibrates, troubleshoots, repairs, modifies, and overhauls instrumentation; assists with the maintenance of the computer and microprocessor systems associated with the treatment plants.
